  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $97,933 to $108,202 + super and leave loading

Our Water, Wetlands & Coastal Science branch is currently seeking to appoint a Scientist to provide advanced computer-based data processing, data management and spatial analysis that supports the delivery of programs for managing our state’s waterways. The work involves developing spatial datasets, online toolkits and decision support systems, statistical analyses of large datasets to derive metrics and quantitative modelling of catchment processes. The work is part of a flagship water quality initiative under the Marine Estate Management Strategy 20218-2028.


About you

As a Scientist you will be part of a supportive and high performing team that works across multiple waterway environments aimed at building knowledge to inform management and policy decisions. You will be committed to working collaboratively with the team to deliver customer-focused results from technical or scientific projects.

You will

Provide expertise in computer-based analysis of spatial and biophysical data that supports science projects. • Maintain a good working knowledge of environmental mapping, modelling, spatial data capture, analysis and management and industry best practice and standards. • Maintain the highest standards of open communication, collaboration, scientific rigour, data and knowledge management in accordance with EH policies. • Develop and present technical scientific reports that explain complex processes clearly and are suitable for a range of audiences. • Deliver high quality science through maintaining high level, up to date knowledge and skills in relevant areas and provide input into the design and creation of tools and resources to achieve project and organisational objectives

You will have

  • Demonstrated expertise in computer-based analysis of environmental spatial data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data management, GIS, biostatistical software programs, scripting in ‘python’ or ‘r’, and environmental modelling

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental or water science
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering rigorous science projects, from project design to completion
  • Demonstrated skills in communicating complex information to a wide range of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and to manage self
