What You'll Do

You will lead the development of our physical risks modelling suite which models the impacts of climatic hazards including heat, flood, storms and wildfire on economies and on investor portfolios.
In this role, you will be involved in enhancing and developing new methods for modelling the economic and financial impacts of climate change and extreme weather events. You will work directly with prospective and current clients to ensure they realise and maximise the full potential of our offering. You will collaborate with our team of climate scientists and software engineers on development and implementation of models. You will keep abreast of latest academic developments in climate change impact modelling, and help nurture our links to the academic community, communicating for other external consumption, including regular blog posts. You will work with a range of large geo-spatial datasets, leveraging AWS infrastructure for efficient processing.
There is flexibility to join the team as a Senior Analyst if you have less management experience.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in economics, climate science or other physical science
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in climate change or extreme weather impact modelling
  • Knowledge of approaches for modelling economic and financial impacts of climate change (e.g., CGE modelling, econometric approaches, natural catastrophe modelling)
  • Previous experience managing a small team is essential
  • Familiarity with main data sources for future climate projections (e.g., GCM, CMIP outputs)
  • Some programming experience in Python and of manipulating climate datasets with tools such as xarray, cdo is essential
  • Ability to communicate findings to non-technical audiences
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities including the ability to disaggregate issues, identify root-causes and recommend solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to confidently handle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Relevant experience within the financial services or banking sectors is desirable
