Python Job: Software Engineer

• $100,075 – $112,725 + 15.4% super

As a software engineer in the Science and Innovation Group, you will join a team of meteorologists, data scientists and programmers and will employ best practices in software development and continuous delivery, such as version control, automated testing, code reviews and configuration management. We have two opportunities available:

• a role in the Forecast Quality Team in the Research Program, with key responsibilities in developing the Bureau's current and emerging forecast verification systems (Jive and METplus). The role will initially be non-ongoing, with the possibility of conversion to ongoing.
• a non-ongoing role (12 months, with a possibility of two 12-month extensions or conversion to ongoing) in the R2O Program, initially working on the Graphical Forecast Editor.

Our ideal candidates will provide technical leadership for the design, development and maintenance of the Bureau's verification and forecast application systems under the science leadership of the Research Program, and in consultation with software architects from the Data and Digital Group and downstream users in the Community Services Group.

To be successful in the role you will have software engineering and computer and data science knowledge. You will have a track record as a team player able to deliver and support high-profile software systems. You will have experience in programming systems using Python with third-party libraries on high-performance Linux platforms.
